Online Anthology: “Latzet! / Get Out!”

This is the title page of a new online anthology of Hebrew poems and art, compiled by Israeli poets and artists in protest of the war in Gaza. The anthology is a collaborative effort by a number of organizations.  Hebrew readers can access the journal at the Daka Journal of Poetry and Criticism.

I am not a great fan of what has become known as the “political poem” because it’s hard for me to imagine language that is not political.  (And, poets against war seems nearly tautological.) However, I found many of the works in this particular anthology breathtaking in their use of the kinds of allusion and deep historical resonance that the Hebrew language makes possible.  If I secure the permissions of the authors, I hope to offer translations of some of the most moving works in the anthology for English readers here in coming weeks.
